Giulia is a psychiatrist, who receives a "death sentence", a bad diagnosis, in front of which he decides to write a letter to death to exorcise fear, which has of death itself since childhood.
In the letter he retraces the salient moments of private life and also evokes a period of his professional life, in which he was treating a suffering young man due to the failure to mourn for the death of the mother who committed suicide before his eyes.
The protagonist reveals upon death, that during hospitalization due to the bowel cancer, imagine life and death as two eternal lovers, who they have been divided by a spell because of which they chase each other continuously, without never meet.
Giulia survives and goes to a park to reread the letter, which has been delivered 40 years later. He rewrites another, asking for a further "extension", another 10 years of life, in order to carry out the pact stipulated with death to make them rejoin.
This work shows the power of life in the face of the prospect of death. There psychiatrist is an example of resilience because faced with numerous traumatic episodes (family bereavement) and in the face of terminal illness it does not break but absorbs shocks of life.
