Komorebi

Komorebi

2025 • 6 min
The film begins with an overwhelming reality: the anxiety and fragmentation born from the sensory overload of the Japanese metropolis. Against this backdrop, a quest for tranquility begins. There is a Japanese word with no direct translation for the warm, ephemeral sunlight that filters through the dense leaves of trees: Komorebi. This becomes the film's central metaphor. Crafted as a cinematic short film rather than a travel vlog, "Komorebi" guides the viewer through a three-act emotional arc. The frenetic pace of the first act stands in contrast to the contemplative moments that follow, culminating in the rediscovery of balance through a profound, personal connection. The filmmaking approach is rooted in a deliberate visual language, where every frame, cut, and color grade serves the story. The original sound design, composed specifically for this film, is not mere background but a character in its own right, amplifying the internal transformation. More than a collection of landscapes, "Komorebi" is a story of finding. It’s about how, sometimes, the clearest and most beautiful light isn't the one that shines down from above, but the one we discover in each other.

Sacred Curse (Mal Sagrado) is a short film that follows the journey of Ciça, a woman who earns her living washing clothes on the banks of the São Francisco River in northeastern Brazil, where she finds sustenance and a deep connection with nature. However, her life is marked by an event that forces her to reevaluate her relationship with this very environment. Through themes such as identity, resilience and connection with the natural world, the film uses almost no words. This further enhances the power of gestures, silence, small actions and music to convey a profound emotional experience, in which the strength of the character and the river are central to the narrative.

"HADŽIJA" is a documentary film about Rifet Karić from Busovača, who set out on foot for the Hajj in February 2023. Along his journey, he faced a series of problems that eventually forced him to complete his pilgrimage illegally. The film's story begins with a Facebook status by Rifet Karić, informing his relatives and friends that he had started his journey to fulfill his long-standing desire and intention (niyyah). After reading the status, the Mayor of Busovača organized a farewell prayer (dova) in the Kaćuni mosque, where everyone surprised Karić but also tried to dissuade him from this dangerous undertaking. Refusing to accept anyone's advice or concerns, Rifet Karić continued his journey, which ultimately spanned nearly 5,000 km. The film follows Rifet's path through his confession and materials he filmed during the journey and posted on Facebook, using the social network as one of the primary storytelling tools. Besides Rifet, the film simultaneously follows the testimonies of people he met along the way who both helped and hindered him in achieving his goal. Through the story itself, we meet people of different nationalities and religions who bond and help Rifet—from ordinary people across Albania, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, and Jordan, to Orthodox and Catholic priests. After more than 4,000 kilometers, Rifet Karić was stopped at the border with Saudi Arabia and returned to Jordan, where he spent nearly two months waiting for a visa. Although he attempted to obtain a visa through political, religious, and other channels, Rifet eventually met a group that organizes illegal border crossings and illegal Hajj performances. His desire to go to Hajj on foot becomes a desire to fulfill his intention by any means, as he questions whether something that is not according to human laws is also a sin according to God's laws. Rifet Karić, along with thousands of other believers, crosses the border, is arrested, and then released. Exhausted, tired, and with nothing left, he sees a light in the desert that guides him to Mecca.

SPACEMETERY

SPACEMETERY

Space-cemetery is a film (realistic animation) set in a future time and starts with the waking from stasis of Jess, as her ship's droid brings news of an urgent message from her former Space Corp Marine and romantic partner Jed. The message uses one of their old secret coded warnings. He is now head of security on an outpost planet she was travelling near to at the time and she agrees to meet up. She discovers he needs a third party to check out a military laboratory space station, as all all security procedures and protocols have suddenly been blocked by his planet's commander, to protect claims of a ground-breaking genetics discovery. Jed risks all by giving Jess highly restricted access into the Laboratory, which Jess uses and discovers things aren't as anyone expected. While meeting Jed again Jess hopes to rekindle their relationship, but she finds that time has moved on in mysterious ways. Unlike traditional space-faring battling heroics sci-fi adventures this is aimed to be hard science fiction with a psychological take on speculative fiction. The sci-fi situation is critical for the story plot twist but it's been written to have many parallels to today's world: Self-induced isolation to hide away from the past, trying to rekindle past relationships but things have moved on, human greed and vanity, fear of being abandoned are a few themes within. The youtube video of this film has been edited to have the script uploaded and then co-ordinated as the timed subtitles with speech relative to the characters in frame, and this has then been manually translated into multiple languages, which is more accurate than the youtube live/automatic options. This film is almost totally traditional 3D computer animation. There is no AI in this film, except for maybe the voices, which is all the director acting as he can't afford actors (well the voice changing software claim it's AI - personally I think it's saying that to appear cutting edge and I is probably just simple sound engineering using format effects)

The Miracle of Gaza

The Miracle of Gaza

2025 • 52 min • Lebanon, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, State of
Set in Gaza ,this is not a political film but a deeply human story of survival and hope . In war-torn Gaza, children´s playful chants and songs compete with war planes and missiles, daily. Halima, a six-year old girl, was hurled away from her brother after an Israeli airstrike. She was thought dead after the fatal injury to her brain and buried. It wasn’t until her cousin discovered her barely moving finger that the story of a child martyr would transform into one of rebirth, and an embodiment of hope. While 'The Miracle of Gaza' narrates Halima's survival story through her eyes as well as by those who saved her, helped her and loved her along the way. The documentary sheds light on the tormenting trauma of war endured by Gaza's chirldren, reflecting the voice of those whose innocence was stolen from them, and confronts the horrors of war through the eyes of a child and the resilience of a girl who chose to continue to sing louder than war plane roars.

Bloodlines at Sea is an experimental film that combines traditional cinema, archives, and soundscapes to explore the links between marine ecosystems, social structures, and environmental imbalances. The film follows the invisible journey of pollutants and greenhouse gases, from their industrial origins to the depths of the ocean, where they alter the balance of life. The underwater images reveal an environment that is both magical and fragile, populated by organisms adapted to extreme conditions. From an ecofeminist perspective, Bloodlines at Sea questions the relationships between resource extraction, bodily domination, and systemic violence that affect both natural environments and marginalized populations.

Logline: A rural waitress must find a way to keep her childhood home before she loses both her land and her mind. Synopsis: Synopsis: STEVIE BODINE, a small town waitress, and her protective older sister BRETT BODINE, hire a city lawyer, ANDREW HSU, who, by fate, stopped in at the diner where Stevie worked while driving through town, to administer the estate of their late father, who left all his property and land to sons that he never had. Finding themselves almost as trespassers in their own home, and with none of the locals wanting anything to do with them, they turn to Andrew, who, in his soft and gentle demeanor, presents a stark contrast to the harsh and traumatic realities of the sisters' existence and history. But having been literally and figuratively screwed over by abusive men their entire lives, the Bodine sisters are not very trusting of Andrew, believing he has ulterior motives to help them, especially since, as he informs them, he is doing the work pro bono. Brett is particularly antagonistic to Andrew, and is triggered every time she sees her naive younger sister Stevie begin to open up to him. When Andrew stops acknowledging Brett, we see an explosive confrontation between the three of them that forces Stevie to choose between her sister and her lawyer, both of whom she has now developed conflicting feelings about. In the end, Stevie chooses herself, for once in her life, knowing that only then can she truly learn how to love and survive on her own.
