Is there Espiga?!

Is there Espiga?!

2025 • 54 min • Portugal
In the heart of Mealhas, a small Algarvian community keeps alive a tradition that has passed from generation to generation: the "Festa da Espiga". What began decades ago in a simple tavern has been transformed, thanks to the local school and residents, into a symbol of unity, memory, and hope. This documentary takes us on a journey through the stories and emotions that make "Espiga" much more than just a celebration, it is a link between the past, the present, and the future. From the curious and attentive eyes of the children to the living memories of the elders, “Is There Espiga?!” shows how a tradition can withstand time, reinvent itself, and strengthen the identity of a unique community in the Algarve’s inland. Because in Mealhas, Espiga is not only celebrated, it is deeply felt. There is Espiga, oh yes there is.
