In December 2008, before the new elected President of United States become the President, Israel lauches an attack over Gaza, under the pretext of rockets fallen on its territory. This cease-fire rupture answered an attack of Israel which had killed six combatants on November 4th 2008. One cannot thus speak about self defence as Israel prevailed itself about it, but well rather of a war against Gaza. Like Richard Falk says it: “This approach aiming at punishing Gaza was intrinsically criminal: it violates laws of the war and led to crimes against humanity." The film works several types of images and sounds to recover on Internet by confronting them with some tapes of texts.

I am Ghazza was shot right after the 2008-2009 attack on Gaza. This attack left 1300 killed and 6000 injured. The film addresses the social and psychological impacts of war on the people of Gaza through the testimony of Dr. Eyad Sarraj, a psychotherapist. Dr. Eyad discusses the short and long term impact of war on the people, especially the children. This film shares some of the individual stories that were not covered by the mainstream media. Asma Beseiso, a 25-year-old Jordanian filmmaker, could not believe what she saw on the news. Media coverage only told a small part of the story of what was happening in Gaza. Beseiso left Amman in February 2009 and headed to her parents’ hometown in Gaza a month after the Israeli bombardment.
Live: From Bethlehem

Live: From Bethlehem

2009 • 37 min
The Bethlehem-based Ma'an News Agency (MNA) emerged out of the ashes of the second Intifada to become the only independent news network in the Palestinian Territories and an increasingly prominent and influential journalistic force in the wider Middle East. Live: From Bethlehem tells MNA's remarkable story. It chronicles the agency's struggles and successes through the eyes of the station's reporters, producers, and photographers, in the process quietly revealing the humanity of ordinary Palestinians as they go about their daily business. The documentary trains its focus on people more than on abstract issues, yet it never loses sight of the myriad social and political forces and pressures that Ma'an journalists are forced to negotiate as they try to gather and report balanced information. What results is an admirably nuanced portrait of how news gets produced, and how Palestinians live, in one of the world's most troubled regions.

“After about ten minutes the action comes to an abrupt end when Alÿs unthinkingly follows the bottle into the street and is hit by a passing car.” Begins with the artist in quintessential observer mode, videotaping the movements of a plastic bottle as it is blown by the wind (and occasionally kicked) around Mexico City’s main square, the Zócalo. The endless irresoluable rolling of the bottle had in fact led to a conclusion. For once, there could be no more delay. Suddenly it seemed that all the observation had been leading up to this moment. In fact, it is not possible to observe an action without affecting it. The observer is always involved, always implicated.
