Landfill

Landfill

A site specific performance piece for camera, filmed on location at Beachy Head, a metaphor for our collective headlong rush over the edge when it comes to our dealings with the environment. But rather than a decisive leap off the cliff, the piece has a much slower, more erosive pace with Paris and Hill gradually sinking in a deep fissure near the cliff edge. Seemingly oblivious, they chat bravely on mixing the banal with specific personal fixations on environment. Time-lapse cinematography marks time passing, clouds and shadows moving as the women slowly descend into the earth. They are very positive, very upbeat, but their sinking is inevitable. They keep talking until they are no longer visible; the last sentence breathed out through a crack in the earth and carried off in the wind. Then they are gone without a trace, and the viewer is confronted with the precipice, which in their absence becomes the foreground rather than the background.

RIP Geocities

RIP Geocities

2011 • 3 min
As though on a rollercoaster at an amusement park, “RIP Geocities” is a ride through what Hollywood envisioned as cyberspace in the 1990’s. Geocities, a website that hosted personal homepages for free, was a locus of creative Internet energy in the 1990’s. This video abstractly represents and mourns the loss of not only the Geocities website, but also the culture it engendered, teeming with polyphonic, hand-coded web presences

Hello, my name is Marie and I am ten years old. And let me tell you I am not always comfortable in my skin, particularly at Christmas time when I get torn between household and household. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you: I have two fathers, two mothers, a stepfather, a stepmother and I know not how many (half-)brothers and sisters and other relatives (or not!). How can that be? Well my mother is gay and has a new companion. My father is also homosexual and he too has a new mate and..., Oh leave me alone, I just can't work it out! And how did I come into this word? Who gave me life? Am I not, like the other Mary, after Whom I am named, the fruit of the Immaculate Conception...???

Stick Climbing

A contemplative walk leads to a bizarre climb. At the end: a view of the starting point of the journey - the village! It is only a few minutes of film, but hints at an eternity, far, deep under the rock face.
