Cairo-based Khaled Hafez's latest work, The Video Diaries, is the artist's response to the revolution that swept through Egypt in January and February 2011. This three-channel video has been adapted for Ibraaz into a single-channel work in which three windows display footage either shot by the artist or taken from social and international media. These moving images - showing policemen; protesters singing and praying; and people apparently being shot or attacked by water cannons - run simultaneously across the three screens, while clocks urgently count down the seconds of the work's duration. A persistent, echoing beat; the sounds of a baying crowd; and a lachrymose guitar solo accompany the footage at different points.

Jacquelyn is a shy, repressed person, while her best friend is popular, mature, and individualistic. The people at the party also overshadow Jacquelyn, and she must build up her confidence. She makes a move on Vivian, reveals her feelings, and crosses a line in their friendship upon which she can't return from. The film approach is surrealistic.

Serotonin Rising

2011 • 60 min
A revolution of good deeds positively changing the planet. In a groundbreaking experiment, researchers at the National Institutes of Health have discovered that humans are hard-wired to be unselfish. During functional MRI brain scans, scientists learned that altruism makes people feel good, lighting up a primitive part of the human brain that usually responds to food, receiving money, and even sex. Combine a heart-warming, funny and semi-autobiographical storyline about two reporters who uncover this altruistic revolution with actual interviews from leading scientists, artists and philosophers and you have the World's First Truly "Feel Good" Movie, Serotonin Rising.

Cet homme-là (est un mille-feuilles)

2011 • 55 min
This man is Xavier, the director's father. She films the man who, after having had three children with his wife, Dominique, leaves her for a man, François, whom he then leaves for a (much) younger man, Guillaume. In reality, the final combination is not so simple because this man leaves no one and no one leaves him either. This is the story of a family break-up that did not happen, that has been commuted into cohabitations that sometimes defy common sense, sometimes the imagination. The story of a contemporary family: when bonds that were at first unimaginable gradually become inseparable.
