FALLING PINK starts off as the usual "artist at work" short film, showing Llyn Foulkes working on several of his admittedly Dali inspired canvasses. A segue into strangeness and horror gives this unusual short film a boost.Foulkes, looking cool (not unlike a Johnny Depp out of James Dean) but sporting an incongruous cigarette holder in his mouth as he paints (not recommended), is working on canvases with the strange landscapes and weird faces of Dali's "melting clocks" period. He suddenly dribbles a long black line ruining one of the paintings, so we know something's amiss.With weird, fetishistic visuals (a nude tiny baby doll he's choking) and Llyn wearing crazy skull masks, the film gets crazy and leads to him murdering somebody in his closet (now if that doesn't imply something...). I enjoyed this goofy short film which clearly deserves wider circulation beyond the Kino Intl. avant-garde compilation. Especially since Foulkes went on to achieve some fame with works in his own style later on.
