Synopsis
Like the feisty Scarlett O'Hara, Noreen Cooke took control of her life, seizing opportunities and making the best of every situation that came her way. Born in the West of Ireland in 1933, the youngest of nine, her family moved to London but returned to the family farm when WWII broke out in 1939. With few educational or employment opportunities in rural Ireland she moved back to London in the early 50s like thousands of other women and forged a new life.
Interspersed with archival footage, interviews and her daughter's poetry, the documentary presents one woman's story of immigration and assimilation that reflects those of millions of people after the war and into the 21st Century.
