Synopsis
Dismantling the American white supremacy that is enforced through police brutality and promulgated through ugly racial stereotypes in the media, all of it amplified and given power by a fascist and lawless president who will subvert the constitution and trample on civil rights to enshrine new versions of slavery.
In this piece, filmed in Phoenix in the summer of 2020 after a series of protests, I examine my own whiteness and therefore my own complicity in maintaining and benefiting from systemic racism. From behind the camera, I explored impoverished communities to highlight the wealth divide that fuels perpetual inequality, and I survey generations of racist imagery that’s been normalized through American propaganda films.
