Synopsis
Disorder of Gearwheel is a stop-motion animated short film that tells the story of an elderly man suffering from dementia. Caught in a flowing river of reality and hallucination, he battles both his youthful inner self and a giant fish symbolizing the disease.
By blending Taiwan’s 1980s fish hunting culture with a surreal narrative style, the film vividly portrays the patient’s struggle and loneliness amid the breakdown of memory. Running approximately five minutes, it uses handcrafted puppets and meticulously built sets to visualize abstract psychological states, aiming to evoke deep empathy from the audience.
