A Framed Memory
2026
Documentary, Short
Synopsis
This is an uplifting tale, with a little bit of mystery and a lovely twist at the end.
How did Jim and Elizabeth find me on those crowded, colourful streets of 1950s Kuala Lumpur? Jim and his family were there, as he was flying helicopters for the Royal Air Force during the Malayan Emergency, but how I came to be there is unknown.
Although I was very much part of the family and their adventures around the world, it was only during Christmas that I got to really be with them.
Fortunately, Jim loved film and shortly before heading out to Malaya he had purchased a Nizo Heliomatic cine camera. These films were always a popular watch during the Christmas family gathering and helped me to frame memories of these times.
Seventy years after joining the family, I reflect on those times and my connections with the new generation growing up around me and my origins are revealed.
