Synopsis
At the beginning of the film, we meet Sofia, a sensitive and curious little girl, alongside her father, a comic book illustrator. In a tender father-daughter moment, he tells her that no matter what path she takes in life, she should always follow it with her heart. These words become an inner anchor for Sofia, a guiding light on her winding artistic journey.

Years pass. Now 18, Sofia is a nonconformist teenager seated at a family dinner with her mother, grandmother, aunt, uncle, and cousin Delia. Aunt Daniela proudly announces that Delia has decided to study law, Delia being the family’s golden child. In contrast, Sofia joyfully declares her dream: to apply to art school and follow in her father’s footsteps as a comic book illustrator. A heavy silence follows. Delia bursts into laughter, prompting a wave of discouraging remarks from everyone, including Sofia’s mother. Hurt and angry as the conversation turns against her, Sofia leaves the table. In her absence, her aunt blames Sofia’s mother for not raising her properly.

Determined to pursue her dream, Sofia enters a grueling routine. Her mornings are a race against time, split between distributing flyers on the street and attending school. Afternoons are spent washing dishes in a restaurant kitchen, while her nights stretch into dawn, dedicated to creating the comics for her art school application. Despite exhaustion, self-doubt, and burnout, Sofia doesn’t give up. She finishes her portfolio.

After Sofia leaves one evening, her mother enters her room. In Sofia’s absence, she discovers the comic pages. Later that night, Sofia returns to find all her drawings torn to pieces. Her work and her dream have been reduced to shreds. In the heavy silence that follows, Sofia tries to salvage what’s left. All that remains is a deep sense of pain and incomprehension.

Thirty-eight years later, Sofia is a mature, independent, and acclaimed woman, now featured in an interview about the launch of her new comic book. When the interviewer asks what inspired her to follow this path, Sofia recalls her father’s words: “Whatever you do, do it with your heart.”

After the event, Sofia boards the subway. She sits next to a little girl, a younger version of herself, around seven years old. Sofia gazes at her tenderly. In the background, fragments of the interview play, echoing one final, unresolved question:

We, as artists, what were we created for?

In a poetic final frame, we understand that perhaps we’ll never truly know the answer.
