Synopsis
The inner voice of a young beekeeper shares his thoughts with us during a day of work. The initial starting point of the narrative voice is a question - addressed by the mother to the protagonist -: "when will I become a grandmother?". From here, a stream of consciousness unfolds that tends to unite the real mother with mother nature, the society of bees with the human one and procreation with overpopulation, for a consequent analysis - free from moral judgments - of the differences: natural mothers expect answers, mother nature offers answers to those who have the sensitivity to capture them; the society of bees is a fixed model where everyone has a role, the human one gives up pre-established roles in the name of freedom but this often causes collective disorientation; having children means increasing the number of the population, in a context of increasingly difficult management, where some countries are emptying and others are filling. Here the young man's reflection intersects with what he knows happens in the hive, here, when the specimens increase, the queen bee flies away together with a part of the group, to prevent the excess number from threatening the integrity of the system. But what if this were not possible? The cells would become cages. Is having children, today, in a world where the adjective "intensive" is coupled with more and more terms - agriculture, breeding, construction, therapies - an ecological choice?
